Apple gives iPhone, iPod touch a memory boost

Hey, there's some new iPhone and iPod touch models out! Apple today doubled the memory of their devices, announcing a 16GB iPhone model for $499 (you can still get the 8GB model for $399), and a 32GB iPod touch model for $499 (you can still get the 16GB model for $399 or the 8GB model for $299).

The new models include all of the extra software updates announced last month at MacWorld, including the new Maps application; Web Clips feature for bookmarking favorite Web sites; home screen customization and iTunes Movie Rentals.

Why so little memory?

It's great that they've doubled the memory, but why so small compared to the regular iPod? Why not offer a model with an 80GB hard drive?
