A couple of start-ups announced a new round of venture funding this week in markets that are of interest to Cisco users. Crossbeam, a developer of network security platforms, received $3.5 million as a continuation of its sixth round of investing, reports VentureBeatWire. Meanwhile Aquantia has received $26 million in second-round funding to develop 10Gig Ethernet over copper, reports GigaOm.

Crossbeam makes the X-Series chassis-based platform that enables customers to virtualize security services and network constructs, according to Crossbeam's Web site. Its C-Series product is aimed at perimeter, mail, browser and server protection. Although there is much excitement about all things virtualized in the data center, VentureBeatWire.com notes that Cisco and Juniper have a head start in the network security field, which of course makes things difficult for Crossbeam - or does it?

Also aimed at data centers is Aquantia which is pitching at helping organizations embrace 10GBase-T "in order to exploit the cost and maintainability advantages of copper within structured cabling,' Aquantia explains on its Web site.
