Cisco unified communications box for small businesses upgraded to support more users

Cisco's Unified Communication 500 Series for small businessses is being upgraded to support 96 users from the current 52 users at any single site or office, reports SADA Systems, an IT consulting firm in its blog. The upgrade, available in March, doubles the number of telephones support by the box. UC 500 was recommended by Cisco Subnet blogger Larry Chaffin as being easy to use and allows customers to use built-in VPN software and the same IP phones as large enterprise users.

Cisco UC500 Series

I wanted to provide some quick clarification to the above post. As part of continued interest to offer flexibility to the SMB market, Cisco plans to introduce license-based “user count” upgrades for all the currently shipping Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series. This enhancement would allow a field deployed 8 user version (desktop form factor) of the Unified 500 Series to be upgraded to the 16 user version. Similarly, the 24, 32 and 48 user systems, available in the 19” rack mount form factor, can be upgraded to the 32 and 48 user version of the system.

These upgrades the upgrades are to scale the solution within the sub-50 user densities.
