Vocera Communications today launched a new handset to complement its existing Vocera Communications System and wearable badges, which are utilized in many hospitals to provide hands-free voice communications.
The T1000 Vocera Phone is an 802.11b/g wireless handset includes the same one-button communication features as the badges, and is compatible with existing Vocera deployments, the company says. The handset can also be dynamically assigned to separate users, letting the device to be shared across different users and shifts, with voice mail and text messages sent to the user, not the device.
Other features include WPA2 security support and Wi-Fi Multimedia quality of service support that prioritizes voice packets over an 802.11b/g wireless network. The T1000 also has an outer surface coated with the BioCote antimicrobial agent, which inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi and mold on the surface (this agent is also on the newly introduced Vocera B2000 Communications Badge).
Vocera says the T1000 will be available to new and existing Vocera customers in Q4 2008. More details are available at the Vocera Web site.
