Launch event: no surprises

A party is always a good thing in Micronet's eyes. Microsoft faces intense pressure to be more "open" (excuse the use of the term) about its product plans and so that does mean that a "launch" event is not a launch at all, just a party. Perhaps the ultra-controlling culture of Microsoft prefers it that way. With no real news, Microsoft can put on a show (no BSODs to worry about) with plenty of orchestrated entertainment.(Rumor has it, that companies such as Microsoft have actually hired people to clap at specific times during such events.)

With Windows Server 2008 officially "launched" (whatever that means), Microsoft can concentrate on the next versions of the operating system. This story says that Ballmer promises to ship more over the next 12 months. Namely the company promises to release a high-performance version of Windows Server, a version of the server for the mid-market called Windows Essential Business Server, the next version of Small Business Server, and Version 2.0 of its Silverlight browser-based multimedia client.
