Microsoft Office beats the pants off of Google Docs, most people would agree. So it is good to see that a beta program to introduce a SaaS version of Exchange 2007, SharePoint 2007 and eventually Office Communications Server (middle of 2008) has hit the ground -- and is geared to SMBs no less.
Microsoft has been wanting to keep its software-plus-services strategies for these high-volume products aimed only at large enterprises -- willing to buy 5,000 seats or more. But that left the door wide open for Google to scoop up millions upon millions of consumers and SMBs with Google Docs. The competition in this area can only be good for the development of affordable online services.
