Buffalo Technology today announced its 500GB MiniStation Turbo USB device, a portable storage device that puts half a terabyte of capacity into a tiny package. The drive will be available later this month for $329 through distributors, online resellers and Buffalo's Web site.
The 5400 RPM MiniStation is compatible with Windows and Mac OS X systems, and uses Buffalo's TurboUSB technology to run at 30% faster transfer rates than other USB hard drives, the company claims. It also features shock resistance features to protect the drives from "bumps, drops, or shocks."
Memeo's AutoBackup and software encryption (Buffalo's SecureLockWare) is bundled onto the pre-formatted drive, and no drivers are required to connect via USB 2.0 or 1.1 ports.
