Cisco joins open source software body

Cisco is getting its open source groove on by joining the Eclipse Foundation, which Cisco's Platform blog describes as: "The leading open source organization whose projects are focused on building an open development platform comprised of extensible frameworks and tools for building, deploying and managing software across the lifecycle." A look at the Eclipse membership roster shows Cisco to be the only networking gear maker in the ranks, which is mostly made up of software companies. Indeed, Cisco says one of the initial Eclipse project Cisco will be backing is the Tigerstripe project. Cisco says Tigerstripe is based "around building software that enables telecommunication companies to create models of next generation networks.  These models are then used to generate documentation and software for essential management applications."
