They can't handle The Truth

Here in the heart of San Francisco, my "1.5Mbps down/750kbps up" DSL delivers at best 600kbps down/300kbps up on a good day with the wind blowing in the right direction. The ISP monopolists don't want this ugly truth exposed, so there's no way the FCC will ever provide "truth in speeds".

It's nice to know that there are parts of the world where the Internet is useful for applications beyond email and limited web browsing, but that ain't the case here, nor is there any reason for thinking that this will change in our lifetimes.
