Answer to your question
The answer to your question "What are the various causes for this???" Answer: George Bush and the US Congress.
IT Job Security
Thanks for NAFTA Bill/Hillary Clinton and the Democrats.
Glad to have have been part of history!
I was one of +/- 800 outsourced to another company by my former employer in February! Wow!! I feel honored.
I only had 25 years with the other company. No big deal.
IT Job Security Democrats fault?
Do you really think measures to ensure the richest "Americans" make more and more and more wealth is a Democratic focus?
In a way, they are
Democrats, Republicans, what is the difference? They are just two halves of the same machine. Making rich richer, and fleecing all others.
IT JOB Insecurity and Democrats
McCain hasn't met any globalisim plan he didn't like - "I'm a free trade nut!!!" he says. Cept the trade going on isn't free - its costing the US our middle class and tech sector. But what the hey, we can always retrain 50 somethings on new green programs (until we outsource them in a couple of years - but shhhh don't tell anyone.
Obama is hesitant to withdraw H1b or L1s calling for more study. Translated, that means I get money from these companies that outsource so I can't do anything about them.
Hillary is the best. She's out there talking about the unemployment - she must have gotten religion recently because for years she was on the US Indian Friendship Caucus which is all about the giant sucking sound going from the US of A to India, Inc.

IT is so yesterday
I recently visited a Fortune 500 company's IT HQ on a consulting assignment. Of the 20000 (yes 20k!) IT workers, 15% were US citizen contractors with no benefits, and over 2000 were workers shipped in wholesale from an Indian IT staffing company for a 5 year work stint. The Indian IT staffing company arranged visas, housing, etc. After 5 years they will all be shipped back to India and replaced with new Indians!
Worse still, these 2000 are just the beachhead. There are thousands more employed through the staffing company back in Bangalore.
The bottom line for young people. Stay the heck away from anything to do with technology. If you really want to work in IT for goodness sake, don't spend four years getting an engineering or Comp Sci degree. Pick up a community college associates, do the work for a few years to get it out of your system, and go back to school to study accounting or Real Estate!
Our country is soooo screwed!
IT Job Security Index
It is important to determine if this IT Job Security Index is actually a valid indicator of anything. It is a "patent pending risk scoring model". I think raw employement numbers in this sector would be far more revealing.
IT job security has nothing
IT job security has nothing to do with NAFTA. I haven't heard of IT jobs going to Mexico. They mainly go to India, although some go to China and Russia.
Innovation is the answer
Innovation drives the need for more IT jobs. When was the last truly innovative IT technology? In the '90s the Internet went from the lab to businesses and homes. There was a big boom in IT jobs. Lately, just more of the same. How much has Vista changed your company? How about those cool new Air Macs? Has a dual core or quad core processor let you do something you couldn't do before? Just more of the same.
If there is nothing new, businesses will just look to cut costs.
