All this sounds typical. The big fish swallows the little (Very Tasty) fish, and we are left with a costlier product that may or may not be better. The low tech users are being ignored at every level by software and hardware providers.

If they still sell the simple network switches, routers, and WAP
If they still sell the simple network switches, routers, and WAPs that I need with the same price that they were under the Linksys brand I'll be happy. I don't care what the name on the box is. If Cisco thinks that suddenly I'll pay more to use a VAR... well I'll be buying another brand instead.
What about the home?
Linksys is also a major player in the home networking market, and the Cisco brand is unknown there. How does Cisco plan to address that market?
Buy Bye Linksys
They bought Linksys for the expressed intent of shutting down a competing product
linksys sux
linksys sux
linksys
Just sounds like another way for cisco to overcharge for all their network gear , maybe people will smarten up and start looking at alternatives
Yeh maybe they can buy a box
Yeh maybe they can buy a box full of dog feces with an HP logo on the front.
You have no idea what you are talking about...
You have no idea what you are talking about. Cisco competes very little on the same level as Linksys.
Forget SMB users, my home is ALL Linksys.
Linksys have been a staple for my home for several years. If it ain't broke, don't be fixin' it Cisco...
It's simply business
Linksys devices are good quality, low-end, networking equipment for the masses. Cisco, wisely, recognized that adding Linksys products to their stable would allow them to compete across the entire market; from low-end to high-end. I believe the the name change will be nothing more than a logo replacement on the chassis.
Linksys will never be Cisco
No matter how many $80.00 routers you throw at a network, it will never be a Cisco-quality device with the advanced feature set available therein. People pay the premium (still competitive if you shop around) because they want the capabilities, the longevity, and the support that come with Cisco products.
