Vista bashing popular but inaccurate

Well this is a bit of a surprise. Upgrading to Vista sooner rather than later (or not at all) is recommended by Forrester. The reasons Forrester gives are fairly obvious and are the same reasons for any technology refresh: support will end, ISVs are focusing on the new OS, not the old, and so on. There has been some talk that organizations can maybe just skip Vista and go straight to Windows 7, but 7 isn't expected to ship until 2010 and no one, not even Microsoft takes the first version of any major software release seriously. So, are you really going to want to wait until perhaps 2011, after the first Windows 7 SP, to refresh your operating system? Might as well get it over with now.

Good time for Win Terms

This would be a great time to discuss the benefits of Terminal Server and Citrix environments as well as the use of Win Terms to access these resources.
BTW, Linux and MAC also support Terminal Server and Citrix clients.

Vista just not ready for many power users

If Microsoft would remove the power and network robbing DRM from the product, maybe more people would go to it. Also, many more professional Apps need to make the leap first. What good is a new system if your $20,000 specialized Apps don't run on it well. Joe Blow user may adapt but power users and gamers probably never will go there until the DRM is gone. Who needs a OS that goes to the internet everytime you open any photo, movie clip or sound to see if you have the rights to it? No wonder they recommend so much horsepower to run it !!!

Really?

Fork out for more bloatware to keep Microsoft's cashflow going. No way. I'll stick with XP for the desktop and Linux for my laptop as a Gig of Linux hard drive space seems to equate to about 5 on Windows

Obviously Forrester has not felt the slow down of vista on a network or on PC. I would say 30 to 90% slower than XP. Vista is yet another reason for Sony to dump Microsoft all together.

"The research firm says its hardware surveys show Windows is the operating system found on 99% of PCs in North America and Europe."

Sounds like someones' ethically-questionable "research firm" already knew what results Microsoft demanded (by proxy) of their "study". Really, this kind of public relations b.s. has been easy to see through for ages. The immaturity and arrogance are astounding. If they don't extend the sale of XP for all systems, games (leisure, enjoyment) won't be enough to keep me using Windows. You are sealing your fate, and it's hilarious.

This is a joke right?
Vista is like buying a Dodge Ram pickup outfitted with a Hyundai engine, not that a Hyundai engine is bad, but it won’t be able to haul that frame. Forget about towing anything.

What about mobile PCs?

So the end of XP is nigh, despite the sudden interest of computers like the ASUS EEE PC which won't run Vista (it may crawl or walk)?

I won't buy something that needs bigger and faster components to run at the same speed my PC already is.
If I upgrade the memory, I want to see an improvement!
