Help on the way for SMB telephony reseller margins being squeezed to death by Cisco

trixbox vs. Cisco

Chris Lyman doing non-profit work in Afghanistan"Telephony resellers are being squeezed to death by the likes of Cisco and other big iron vendors," said Chris Lyman - CEO of Fonality/trixbox.

"They are being told make money on service, let us keep the hardware and software margin."

"This is not fair to these folks who drive onsite and do all the heavy-lifting."

"That is why we built trixbox 2.0 as a reseller-centric product that gives them 50% margins on software, 100% margins on hardware, and still lets them keep the service dollars for themselves."

"This release is all about the reseller."

"It allows them to deploy 100 phones without doing anything more than taking them out of the box and plugging them in."

"None of our competitors can save their resellers this much time."

"And, time is money to these guys."

In addition to eye-popping reseller profit margins, this week's release of trixbox 2.0 is optimized for companies with 20 to 200 seats providing SMB telephony Cisco resellers with a knockout selling opportunity.

Cisco resellers can listen to a very entertaining podcast that describes the selling opportunity and the sexy trixbox 2.0 features that address that opportunity:

Chris Lyman and Rich Tehrani podcast

trixbox 2.0 delivers the first standards-based, 100 percent hands-free phone provisioning of any IP-PBX product, significantly cutting the time required to set up a new phone system.

Other vendors claim auto-phone provisioning but they all require keypad input for each new phone, vastly slowing the deployment time of the system.

trixbox 2.0, however, instantly recognizes Polycom and Aastra phones, and automatically adds them into both the phone system and HUD, the employee dashboard that unifies company-wide phone calls, voice mail, presence indicators and instant messaging.

Also added for Cisco resellers is a consolidated interface that allows resellers to manage all of their trixbox 2.0 customers from a single web-based administration interface, with hot switching between deployments.

A new network card configuration option allows you to manage the IP address on a remote trixbox 2.0 system.

There is also a new interface for custom configuration of analog and PRI and T1 cards.

New alerts are also available so Cisco resellers can receive email to text messages when issues arise with a PRI, RAID disk, analog line voltage, and a host of other indicators.

Scared to bear the wrath of Cisco!

Received the following email message regarding this blog entry:

-----------------

When wasn't Cisco taking the lion's share of the margin.

No one wants to talk about this, as they are scared to bear the wrath of Cisco.

Why do so few Cisco (or for that matter Avaya) Platinum VARs sell only the one brand?
