Aha -- Microsoft has begun revealing details about its low-cost Office suite geared to do combat with Google Docs and OpenOffice.org. The key idea here is that this software will be sold as a subscription -- a new plan for Microsoft -- and will include desktop components that integrate closely with Microsoft's already free cloud components.
We'll see if users will bite. If the price is right, they might just do that. Many folks agree that Office beats the pants off of freebie Google Docs or other open source options, except for the price tag. If Microsoft solves that, it could have a winner with Albany.
