How to upgrade the system Flash in Cisco 2600 series routers

By Brad Reese on Tue, 04/29/08 - 8:13am.

Cisco How-To Tutorials

The Cisco 2600 series routers have a single Flash SIMM that contains the Cisco IOS Software.

The Flash upgrade SIMMs are delivered blank, without any Cisco IOS Software.

After the upgrade, the router is in ROM Monitor (ROMmon) mode, and requires software recovery.

To resolve, you may wish to perform these steps:

1. Copy the existing Cisco IOS Software to a TFTP server.

For instructions refer to:

Cisco Copying Flash Files 2. Follow these instructions:

Replacing the Cisco Internal Flash Memory SIMM 3. Load a Cisco IOS Software image into the new Flash through the xmodem procedure.

Refer to:

Xmodem Procedure for Downloading a Cisco IOS Software Image onto a Cisco 2620 Router

You can also issue the tftpdnld command for this process.

Refer to:

How to Download a Software Image to a Cisco 2600 via TFTP Using the tftpdnld ROMMON Command
