Solidcore works well

You might also consider looking at a tool from Solidcore (www.solidcore.com) for this. I've found it much easier to use and more effective than Tripwire, but it's not free, so keep that in mind.

Solidcore Did Not Impress

Interesting comment - this doesn't seem to add up to our own analysis. The organization I work for did an evaluation for both Tripwire and Solidcore for PCI compliance requirements a few months ago, and Tripwire was far and beyond the better tool. We got budget pulled so couldn't fund either immediately though. Not to diss Solidcore by any means, but it is like comparing apples and squash - same basic shape, entirely different things - and we thought the apple was the clear winner in our particular case.

Solidcore vs. Tripwire

Hmmm....Maybe we have different roles in our respective organizations, because it doesn't appear "you" actually did the analysis of the products. I've worked in IT for 14 years and was an original Tripwire user. While I thought and still think Tripwire is a dececnt tool for auditing configurations, it is simply just that...a tool...and complex one to configure and manage at times. This is what led me to Solidcore, which proved to us in an intial POC they could block non-policy-backed change, which was key for us to minimize change-based outages. This was only after countless hours researching the market and our options. Maybe Network World Labs should review both products to give all readers a no nonsense assessment.

Real comments about Tripwire from real users

Interesting that real users seem to find tons of value in Tripwire, but many "anonymous" users (ie: SOLIDCORE EMPLOYEES) seem to be writing in about how great their "tool" is. If it is so great, why are they targeting new markets where there is no competition (pci midmarket) and giving the product away (we cannot sell so we we rent)

Let Network World decide

Listen friend...I wish I had the luxury of saying I worked for a vendor like Solidcore or Tripwire, but I'm merely an IT professional working for a company whose PR people will likely get upset if I post my name. So yes...I'm anonymous. I'm interested in sharing objective and productive knowledge among IT pros, based on my experience and their experience. Your comments aren't very productive at all, and it clearly looks like you are a representative from Tripwire. These posts are not for vendors, they are for IT professionals with real value to add.

I say let Network World review products, and each company can put their money where their mouth is...right?

Getting a baseline

If you deployed the Windows agents, they should have showed up as Discovered, but it sounds like you manually added them as AD nodes. If the nodes aren't showing up as discovered there might be an agent configuration issue. Also worth checking if you have a Directory Server license.

agents and nodes

The agents were installed and the Directory Server licenses in place. Not having done that part myself I couldn't tell you exactly what slipped. Setting up AD nodes for the AD rules and running the baseline operation worked to get things going.

Tripwire has come a long way from the original open source version.
