Google's Protests Much Me Thinks

Google doesn't operate a network, if uses others. They take this attitude like all people who want a free ride. Verizon has a valid need to test an application on it's network before letting it on it. What if a new application causes network problems for Verizon's network and their Customers on that network. Will Google make Verizon whole if they lose business because of a snafu is loosed on their network by some rouge application. Give me a break. Will Google allow me to put applications on their servers without and testing> I doubt it would. I would put up such a fuss about their right to control their network, etc. Get a real life Google.

Thanks Google!

Previous post must be from Verizon's lawyer. What a crock.

Imagine what the Internet would look like had Google not opened up the maps API, etc. Google thank you for making the Internet a better place, and I wish you the same luck (and me the same benefits) in mobile.

Lawyer sounding dude -> Google *does* operate a network, and open their network. It's a different kind of network, but they are still faced with similar challenges wrt abuse, expense, etc. that Verizon would be. Yet somehow they figure it out.

Verizon's tactics are based on monetization, not security. If they can't control/restrict features, they can't bill for them.

Verizon is slime

Chronos, Verizon's interest has nothing to do with testing applications. They cripple or disable everything that doesn't mean revenue to them. Want an example? Go to Motorola's website and read about the features of the RAZR phone. Then get a Verizon RAZR. You won't be able to do half the stuff you wanted a RAZR for. For instance, take a picture. Hook up your phone to your USB port. Try to upload the picture. You can't. You have to pay Verizon to upload it for you. This doesn't save bandwidth, it forces you to use - and pay for - bandwidth.

Verizon is slime.
