Identity = Bank Account?

This discussion of identity theft seems to always linked to financial activities / bank accounts. However, I think there is much more to identities & identity theft than simply banking matters.

It would be interesting for you to explore the topic of identity theft to that segment of (US) population without a bank account. Do they suffer from identity theft? Any lessons learned? Or are they just as subject to becoming victims?

The Economist http://www.economist.com/finance/displaystory.cfm?story_id=6889252)
claims there are 12m "unbanked" persons. What is their resk exposure to identity theft?

Identity Theft hits all of us

Thank you for your post. I think identity theft hits all of us. Look at this video I found regarding a court in Riverside, California. It is clear the identity thieves can access this court and steal everyone's identities...not just those with bank accounts.

I hope more people are aware of this situation so they can look at their own courts and protect themselves. Thank you.

It's all about the money.

The stories are all about bank account theft because it easily equates to money. While I'm sure other types of identity theft bring in a large revenue it's not nearly as obvious and probably much harder to get solid loss numbers for.
