Almost exactly a month ago (April 6th, 2008), we received an updated resume that featured Cisco CCIE No. 20450 Routing and Switching.
New Cisco CCIE certificates are currently being awarded at the rate of 273 per month.
As of May 7th, 2008 - 19,699 CCIE certificates have been awarded during the entire history of the Cisco CCIE program.
| 20723 - CCIE Number as of May 7th, 2008 |
1024 - Beginning CCIE Number issued August 1993
______________
19,699 - CCIE Numbers issued in the entire Cisco CCIE Program
Of course, not all CCIEs have re-certified, many have allowed their CCIE Numbers to become inactive (meaning that they have to start from scratch and retake the CCIE written exam as well as the CCIE lab exam all over again in order to recapture their CCIE certification status).
Finally, the Cisco CCIE Resources Worldwide web page continues to be out-of-date.

A double wammy
Received the following email message from a "verified and confirmed" current Cisco CCIE:
The number of CCIE's is growing at about 12 a day.
Every year the day count is climbing.
At the same time Cisco is doing its best to help the Partners lower the income of CCIE's by restraining a CCIE's ability to find employment.
A double wammy.
Higher volume of CCIE's plus restraint of trade by denying CCIE's to move their number from one partner to another, without waiting a year before the CCIE can help meet the partner's quota of CCIE's.
To say nothing of the fear that CCCIE's have about talking bad about the CCIE program or Cisco for fear of retribution.
How do other CCIE's feel about Cisco restricting your CCIE Number for an ENTIRE year after becoming associated with a different Cisco channel partner?
Sincerely,
Brad Reese

Cisco CCIE Security Lab Problems
Yours truly received yet another email message:
Find it interesting that Cisco has sold over 4 million ISR Routers, but the CCIE Security is running 12.2T, (No CCR Documentation).
For routers they have the 2600, 3600, 3700, and 3550 switches, (see Cisco CCIE Security site for equipment).
All CCIE Security Lab should be called the discontinued lab!
For Frame Relay cloud they have on all CCIE's Labs 4000 or 4500 routers, for console servers all 2511's.
The labs have also gone virtual.
All the equipment is now in Brussels and San Jose.
Problem with this is if you are taking your test at RTP; no one gets into San Jose to fix a failed router or switch until 11:00
So you are three hours into the test before support arrives.
The second issue with the virtual locations is the inability to have replacement parts.
There are no spare racks or equipment, so if your rack breaks you go home!
So sorry, 11:00 am nothing works, see you next month!
Can this be John Chambers vision?
Are YOU seeing similar problems with your CCIE Lab Exam?

Lots of Respect for the CCIE Community
I have lots of respect for the CCIE community that are expert in all things networking (IP, Ethernet, switching and routing). The great news is that these skills are hardly restricted to Cisco products and can equally apply to Nortel data solutions. So jump at the chance to get better energy efficiency and performance, and free up some money to initiate some new projects.
