A reason to stick with MS-DOS

Wired reports on how a data-recovery firm was able to salvage information on a melted hard drive from the Space Shuttle Columbia because it had been part of a PC running MS-DOS:

Edwards attributes that to a lucky twist: The computer was running an ancient operating system, DOS, which does not scatter data all over drives as other approaches do.
