What's the full cost of Cisco TelePresence?

The new Cisco TelePresence System 500 is videoconferencing at a lower cost than Cisco's other offerings, but Computerworld Canada last week quoted analysts who noted that not only is the 500 not that low in cost, but it also can ring up high bandwidth costs.

The device costs $33,900, which seems like a bargain next to the other new Cisco videoconferencing system introduced last week, the $340,000 TelePresence System 3200. But the analysts said that the $33,900 price tag is aimed at medium-sized businesses, still too high for small businesses to afford. And the network would have to be "pretty robust" to support the bandwidth required.

More data, less hype

I've read the linked-to article and while it does provide a personal opinion on who will (or won't) be using the new system, the "ring up high bandwidth costs" claim appears almost as a footnote in the last paragraph with no data (= required bandwidth) or justification (= price).

It looks to me as yet another article written from a cozy chair as a reply to a press release. I wonder where's the "analyst" portion of the article.

LifeSize for sure

With the 3000 system your talking about 13mbits to 18mbits thats for 3 screen and audio. So for 1 screen your going to need about 4.3 on the low end to run it. I know the cost of bandwith in the UK.

Your talking about for a LES 10mbits line around £6,000 to install and around £10,000 for bandwith. So if you want two site got to 2x that number.

I seen a product called Lifesize very very good at 1mbit or 2mbit for full HD.
