IBM says emerging markets will love free desktop software
What's not to love about free software especially if you are strapped for cash? That's why IBM executives think Lotus Symphony will take off big in emerging markets. During the LotusSphere summit in Phuket, Thailand, IBM executives talked about Symphony's role in an already commoditized desktop software market. "Symphony frees up users’ money," said Edward Orange, director for Lotus at IBM Asia Pacific, reports the Inquirer.net. Despite Symphany as IBM's latest attempt to get under Microsoft's skin (remember OS/2?), Orange stressed that IBM has no plans to get into desktop application software in a big way.
