I'm very glad you emphasized that firewalls are useless against attacks targeting web applications. These days, those kinds of attacks represent around 75 per cent of all hacker attacks. It's a very vulnerable, target-rich environment. At boonbox.net, we're constantly trying to instill a sense of the depth of the problem and offer solutions for potentially vulnerable websites (Read more about that at http://www.boonbox.net/devfense.htm). But there is definitely a lot of things average, non-IT experts can do to improve security. Again, great article.
