Digium|Switchvox Breaks the Appliance Barrier

There are many reasons to get excited about the future of IP telephony. For me, it's the development and release of new products that will revolutionize the industry. After a recent blog post (Appliances Run Amok) on the emerging market of VoIP & IP-PBX appliances, it appears that Digium, "The Asterisk Company", is pulling ahead of the competition with their recently updated Switchvox appliance line.

Today, Digium announced the Digium|Switchvox AA300, a mid-sized platform in the Switchvox family of products. This appliance supports up to 150 users, and offers oodles of functionality for the small to medium-sized business. Easily beating the price/feature ratio of comparable offerings from "traditional vendors" such as Nortel, Cisco, and Avaya, this appliance and the entire Switchvox lineup has big things in store for the future of SMB telephony. For users concerned with support options, the AA300 is fully covered by the Digium Exceptional Satisfaction Program, "which gives customers their money back if the product is defective or fails to perform as described."

Honestly, I very rarely cover new product releases. However, the newly-completed lineup of appliances from Digium|Switchvox sets the pace for standards-based IP telephony, at an affordable price. Running the SMB 3.5 software, the appliance offers advanced functionality from a user-friendly GUI administration website. In my personal opinion, it's hard to beat the ease-of-use and high-functionality trade off that the Digium|Switchvox appliances offer.

In the near future, I'll be conducting a hands-on evaluation of the AA300 appliance, and will report back my findings in an upcoming post. Stay tuned!
