Just a couple of points I forgot from my last posting on the iPhone 3G. I had previously written that the iPhone was missing a few features I would personally like to have. Of these, only the price has been clearly addressed. Yes, monthly service is a little more expensive, but throughput should at least in theory be faster, so let's call that a wash. I've decided I can live with the lack of a physical keyboard assuming I can get an external Bluetooth keyboard to work. But still no memory card slot (I guess I can live without this), no removable battery (yes, longer battery life is being advertised, but this could still be a serious pain at some point), and no USB port or support for tethering. Apple (and perhaps AT&T) really wants to control what goes onto the device; this is irritating at best and corporate facism at worst. So I'm still not sure what I personally will do; I don't have to make a decision until September when my Q deal with Verizon is up. The iPhone 3G regardless remains on the list.
Keith Shaw invited me over to Network World's studios for a conversation on the iPhone 3G. I always enjoy speaking with Keith; he's an even bigger nerd about this stuff than I am.
A pleasant Friday the 13th and weekend to you all.
