Seriously, I hate Microsoft enough as it is (Sony too, but not to the same degree). I have all 3 platforms, and I play with certain friends on each console (unfortunately, not everybody owns more than one). Like November of '07, when Sony paid Epic (maybe it was Midway) for a timed exclusive for Unreal Tournament; Sure, I bought it for my PS3, at the time, but that's one of the games I would have bought for my 360 since my friends who own a PS3 aren't the biggest FPS fans (I'm not implying this is the norm, I'm only referring to MY friends/family). Now UT3 is being released on 360 next month, all my friends who've played it at my place are going to buy it for their 360, and if I want to play with them I'll have to buy another copy for a different platform. I got F'd in the A b/c Sony wanted to appeal to a wider audience and they wanted a FPS exlusive that wasn't developed by one of their in-house studios.
Which brings me to today. Square-F'in-Enix is giving Microsoft 2 exclusives and 1 timed-exclusive for their upcoming RPGs, which I would prefer to play on my PS3 (just my preferrence for RPGs). You may be wondering 'Why would Microsoft pay millions apon millions for exclusive rights for these RPGs'? Well, the answer is simple; Microsoft needs to appeal to a wider audience around the globe, most of all in Japan, not so much fot the 360 but so they will have a larger audience who will buy their next gen console after the 360. They are trying to buy customer loyalty, and while doing so screwing this customer who's had enough.
I would love to play Star Ocean 4, but I won't. I'm starting to think that I should only buy Wii games. Sure, they aren't as fun TO ME as PS3 or 360 games, but I won't get screwed by one of the companies buying exclusive right for a game I don't want to buy for their console, such as SSBB (I know, that was developed in house, but it's just an example). How angery would all the other 360 owners be if Sony paid for exclusive rights to COD5 for a full year? What if Microsoft paid Take Two for a full exclusive of GTA, how pissed would PS3 owners be?
Okay, using your degree of anger to the 2 questions above, now you know how multiplatform OWNERS feel. It's the dumbest $h*t. Fine, appeal to a wider audience and piss off people who either own the competitors console or own both but they still get pissed cause all you've done is screw people like me.
I'm on the fence with Microsoft today like I was with Sony about UT3, but I've been screwd with Bioshock already (FYI Mircosoft paid for exclusive right to that aswell) along with an RPG that I also wanted for my PS3. Sony, if any of your employees are reading this, you have 2 strikes against you; Microsoft, you're on thin ice. Nintendo, you've done right by me so far, but I only rent your games so you probably don't like me much so I'll just say 'Sorry Nintendo'. As for Sony and Microsoft, next round of consoles I'm only buying one of you and I'll never buy the other; I'm sick of the battling, I'm sick of you two bad mouthing each other, I tired of you both buying exclusive rights to a game I don't want to buy on your platform (even though if when the right company buys exclusive rights to the right game it makes me wet myself, most the times that never happens), and most of all I'm tired of defending you both over Nintendo when they're the ones not bad mouthing their competitors, not buying exclusive rights, not pissing in the face of their customers on a monthly basis.
Shame on you both.
