Will the death of XP really hurt you?

It might hurt Microsoft more than it hurts me. I will use XP as long as I can but then I will go to Mac or Linux before I will go to Vista. Once the vendors stop selling PCs with XP, they will stop selling me PCs. I have converted a couple of boxes to Kubuntu. I have ordered a Mac. Once I figure which way to go, I will convert the rest of my menagerie. All Microsoft can do is speed the process, they cannot save themselves in my eyes.

Licensing...

If this article is about licensing then that's a task for a whole years worth of articles!

M$'s licensing is lame and according to their website on the availability of XP it's still available to OEM system builders until January of 2009 so till then you can still get your hands on OEM versions of XP. If you're a larger business who takes advantage of the Select License or Open License program you can DOWNGRADE your Vista license and install your Select / Open copy of XP till your hearts content.

OS's like XP will be at least supported for another 2 years since the service pack just came out. M$'s policy on support for service packs is generally 12 to 24 months according to their website.

I'd anticipate the majority of mid sized to large business stays clear of Vista and continues to use their XP media with downgraded Vista licenses.

Good luck out there...we're not upgrading ha ha!

I will go to Linux or maybe Mac too

I will go to Linux or maybe Mac too. Screw Microsoft forcing people to upgrde at a great expense!!!

Uh, how about downgrade rights?

I just bought my 2009 allocation of desktops with XP. However, from what I understand, most all the major lines are providing commercial accounts an XP downgrade option even if Vista's installed.

The real question is: Will the death of XP really hurt Microsoft? They appears to be self extinguishing. The inflated OS costs will drive quite a few of us off. Sayonara, Microsoft!
