Bully for Verizon

I hadn't seen, or at least hadn't noticed, the TV commercial in question, but according to this blogger, Verizon has been taking heat over the company's use and portrayal of a couple of pit bulls to peddle its LG Dare cell phone. Verizon has apparently refused to cave to the pressure, a move that's unusual these days. Good for them.

I'm not the biggest Verizon fan but I have to say that not only are their commercials better than Sprint's, but their customer service is better as well. Especially on the wireless side.

Verizon Dog commercial

Everyone who is concerned about the feelings of the dogs in this commercial needs to get a life. I see nothing wrong with it myself. It certainly doesn't hurt the dogs feelings, you think? I love dogs as much as anyone one, but lets get real. Lets worry about something that matters. If that's all you have to worry about, you have it made.

When it comes right down to it, the dogs weren't hurt, and that's all that matters.

Verizon Commercial WAS PULLED!!

Just an update, as one of the over 5000 people who signed the petition to the the commercial pulled...it wasnt about the dogs feelings!

It was about the grossly inaccurate depiction of those dogs as vicious attack animals. Negative publicity does nothing but fuel the fire that surrounds this loving family dog.

Blacks would be OUTRAGED if verizon placed an ad with a phone in the middle of a group of black men drinking beers and hanging out on a stoop in the ghetto ...and dared a middle aged white man to touch it.

Pick your "Negative Stereotypical Image" of ANYTHING, and apply it to this commercial... Do you get the point?

Animals cant defend themselves, or speak up and say, "Hey, thats not true!", but we can, and we did.

Say its wrong, say its right, no matter the case, the ad has been pulled.

"I have just spoken with Steve Schwartzman, Executive Coordinator, who told me
that the offensive ad has been pulled in all markets. Thank you to all who
signed this petition and made the calls! Mr. Schwartzman was very understanding
of our feelings, and admitted that they have received quite a bit of heat over
this commercial.
Each and every one of you made the difference.

Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Renee Brace and the ASPCA Online Community"
