It's too bad that Dell will likely kill the innovative R&D and development that makes the EqualLogic product unique. The company has never successfully acquired a company (reminder: Alienware is an arms-length acquisition that Dell left alone). We've already seen the best and brightest at EqualLogic leave the company and everyone knows Dell can't retain any good talent (especially in the storage industry). So for a longer term investment, I would actually look to NetApp as I know they will have consistent product families and upgrades in the future. I just really can't bet on that happening at Dell as the EqualLogic people are integrated into a really abrasive culture; not to mention a very supply chain / price / delivery focused company (less than 1% of revenue is spent on R&D - don't let the $500M number fool you).
The real kicker will be when they take away the free food & beverages, not to mention ability to travel and expense simple items for the EqualLogic team. They will laugh as they leave in droves. But that is the classic small v. larger company (it's just sad that HP or NetApp couldn't acquire them where they might have been happier in a more Engineering focused environment).

How did you get a Compellent SAN with SAS drives? From what I know their architecture only supports FC and SATA drives at this time. Reference Compellent.com: http://www.compellent.com/Products/Hardware/Technology-Independence.aspx
