Microsoft Security aims to answer more of your Patch Tuesday questions

By Microsoft Subnet on Thu, 07/31/08 - 8:42pm.

Do you think Microsoft Security is improving? This is a tender spot for most IT executives. Patch management is a pain in the <anatomy-of-choice>! When Microsoft gets the patch wrong, your systems suffer and your users blame you. But Microsoft is also the victim here -- the hackers are the perpetrators. As we all know it pays to build yourself a giant botnet and Windows is the platform of choice because of the sheer number of machines out there.

Still, Microsoft deserves credit for trying to improve its security processes and always trying new things to share patch information. It publishes a pre-release security bulletin that details the patches expected in the next round (though the actual patches don't always match the pre-release information). Microsoft conducts a monthly Webcast for each Patch Tuesday, open to all, and staffs that Webcast with experts who answer questions from attendees.

Today it announced it will be publishing transcripts of the Webcast on the Microsoft Security Response Center blog within two days of the webcast. It has published the transcripts for June and July already. While Microsoft Security may never be your favorite part of the company, they do appear to be trying to get patch information out to you.

What the IT world needs is to get off the patch/hack/patch/hack ferris wheel altogether.
