Will new Lara Croft make people forget Angelina Jolie?

Alison Carroll, the new Lara CroftEidos Interactive today announced that Alison Carroll will be the new face of video game character Lara Croft as part of the promotions for the newest game in the Tomb Raider series, "Tomb Raider: Underworld", set for a November release.

Eidos says Carroll will make appearances as Lara Croft over the next year. The company says she includes the "essential characteristics at the core of Lara Croft's personality – brawn, brains and beauty." To prepare for her role as a video game character, Alison Carroll embarked "on a regime that includes survival, combat and semi-automatic weapons training, as well as world archeology coursework."

And you thought Method actors had it tough.

Still, most non-gaming people will still consider Angelina Jolie as the quintessential Lara Croft, as she appeared in the two Tomb Raider movies.
