Chick-fil-a gets widget happy

By Keith Shaw on Wed, 08/27/08 - 8:06am.

In addition to gadgets, one of my other obsessions is food from Chick-fil-a (and potato chips, but that's another story). The company has always been on the cutting edge of technology, both on their Web site and with in-store technology such as point-of-sale equipment, etc. So I wasn't surprised to find this widget, a countdown clock to its "Chik-n-Strips Labor Day Giveaway", where customers can get three free pieces of chicken if they wear any football team's logo or collegiate logo when ordering. It's part of the company's sponsorship of college football, and the site also has a cute "Cheer for Chicken" Web site that lets you dress up the company's famous cow mascots.
The widget is fun (but MySpace only? Where's the Facebook version?), and gives a good sign that companies are starting to take advantage of social networking tools and options to spread its message.
