Cisco CTO Padmasree Warrior: Did Governor Palin just wink at me ?? I feel insulted

Cisco Twitter

Padmasree WarriorCisco Chief Technology Officer Padmasree Warrior appears to be one of a few senior execs of a high-tech company to provide frequent updates on the real-time short messaging service, Twitter.

She has 675 individuals following her quips, but are they learning about her thoughts on the future of IT and other intellectual discussions?

Methinks not.

Twitter allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

The following is strictly the opinion of yours truly and not that of Network World or the Cisco Subnet:

Impressed that Padmasree is taking the time to Twitter. Perhaps that initial and only Cisco blog authored by Padmasree back in December 2007 was just a one-time affair with nothing really interesting at Cisco in the last 10 months to blog about.

Luckily, she keeps her Twitter following updated on her personal and wickedly intellectual thoughts, for example last evening Padmasree tweeted:

Did Governor Palin just wink at me ?? I feel insulted

No, yours truly did not make that one up, see it for yourself.

---------------------------------

The Cisco CTO conversing with a convicted felon and former prison inmate during dinner:

Sitting next to Martha Stewart at dinner.
She says she loves my last name and wants to have it :)

Gotta agree with Martha on that one, having the last name "Warrior" would certainly be a "mark of prestige" for any inmate serving time in prison!

---------------------------------

Giving the "brush off" to multi-billionaires:

Said no to Bridge w/ Warren Buffet.
Back in my room doing email.
My dad, a national Bridge champ in India
would be unhappy with my judgement

Am 100% positive that Motorola shareholders are more unhappy with your judgement than Dad!

---------------------------------

Showing her abundant skills at fostering teamwork:

My decorator & I talk at x-purposes;
He says "chartreuse"
I say *green*,
he says "antique"
I say "fake",
he says "shantung",
I say "pardon?"

Do the technology development and research engineers at Cisco understand her vision better than her decorator?

---------------------------------

Flexing her relationship building skill with potential Cisco customers:

So.. picked up about 600 biz cards on trip
Will look at, oh say 1% in 5yrs.
Need a *briefcase clean up* rule
to lighten load, save fuel :)

My, my, aren't thou a superb hire for developing new customer prospects for Cisco.

---------------------------------

Practicing her pig-english skills on a limo driver:

Limo driver:"where live"
Me:"er..Chicago?"
He: "oohh not"
Me:"er.. California?"
He: "Ah verri gooda".
We r both happy got that cleared up:)

You can bet that limo driver now recommends to all his wealthy clientele, sell your Cisco stock!

---------------------------------

How she refines the art of pomposity:

Double booked: Mayor of Tianjin or
Founder/Exec Chairman of WEF?
Who should I send a polite decline to :( Sigh.

Without a doubt, am sure either one would feel delighted and very blessed that you have declined.

---------------------------------

The Cisco Chief Technology Officer tackles a most vexing technical issue:

How do i post pictures on Twitter?
Trying to use twitpic but :(

Perhaps for Padmasree, making any type of technology actually work is a real big issue! God help Cisco!

---------------------------------

On September 18th, Cisco CTO Padmasree Warrior discussed the idea of using collaborative technologies in an article published on GigaOM.

"I use Twitter and today I can put an idea up and people react immediately and I am able to sift and formulate my ideas. In this way technology makes us able to bring ideas to market faster."

A GigaOM reader was quick to point out:

"The talk is a 100% repeat of what she spoke at recent Bangalore TiE event. Oooops"

---------------------------------

On August 12th, Fortune blogged about Padmasree Warrior's view regarding Twitter:

"What I use Twitter most for is to share What I am thinking rather than What I am doing. I am less interested in informing my virtual community about lunch every day. But, I am very interested in hearing feedback about my thoughts on various techno-social topics; like the future firm or internet transformation. It is intellectually stimulating to think out aloud virtually and hear the thoughts of others."

---------------------------------

It's great that Padmasree appears to be the only senior exec at a high-tech company that is on Twitter, but in her position she's not using it to its full potential.

She's said in the past that she likes to use Twitter to share thoughts about the future of innovation, techno-social topics, and not so much about what she's having for lunch every day, however that is exactly what her feed has been about lately.

As one of the leaders of a $40 billion dollar tech company her followers might be better served to hear about Cisco's future directions and other intellectual discussions, not so much the fact that she tried organic tea while in China (obviously, I should not assume that this is what all her followers want either).

For someone in her position, Padmasree Warrior's Twitter feed should have been noticed in Network World's 20 must-follow Twitter feeds, but sadly the writer of that story told yours truly that she didn't feel that Warrior's feed was useful to anyone other than to her friends and family, as it rarely comments on her thoughts regarding the future of technology or what Cisco is working on.

Wearing your politcal affiliation on your sleeve as well?

would your tone might have been fawning adoration rather than sneering derision if the tweets were in favor of your candidate?

Are you serious?

Did you seriously write an article in order to make fun of Padmasree for her twitter feed??

I work for a large enough company to know about corporate legal departments... that almost everything interesting and worth talking about publicly is proprietary, or covered by NDA, or regulated by the SEC, or will otherwise get you fired. I applaud her for even engaging as much as she has, and helping to push US industry closer to new technology and forms of communication.

Besides, is it wrong if she uses twitter for personal reasons as opposed to marketing for her company? At least it's human and engaging. Your own twitter feed might learn from that.

No Issue With Your Good Point

Hi Benson,

Yes, am absolutely totally making fun of the Padmasree Warrior Twitter feed, her Twittering is hilariously funny in my personal opinion.

"Pointed out" what I thought were the really hilariously funny ones too.

No issue with your good point though!

It is certainly not wrong for Padmasree Warrior to use Twitter for personal reasons as opposed to marketing for Cisco.

However, totally disagree with your statement:

"Almost everything interesting and worth talking
about publicly is proprietary, or covered by NDA,
or regulated by the SEC, or will otherwise get
you fired."

Is Padmasree Warrior afraid to speak her mind on Cisco technologies as their CTO?

If so, then what is the purpose of Corporations using collaborative technologies?

As far as my own Twitter feed, hope to make it more human and engaging each day!

Sincerely,

Brad Reese
