Not snakes on a plane but Cisco TelePresence on a plane?

OK, Cisco is getting a bit too carried away with telepresence now. Cisco CEO John Chambers reportedly told an audience at this week's Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2008 that he wanted to see videoconferencing on planes within 18 months. Errr, isn't telepresence supposed to do away with the need for execs to zip across the globe on planes? Or is Chambers saying that Cisco plans to redesign telepresence rooms to look like the interior of private jets - that would be fun!

Chambers talked about Cisco TelePresence during a Q&A session with Gartner analysts. According to a Computerworld story, Chambers predicted that the arrival of Wi-Fi services and other types of Internet connections on planes will enable travelers to hook up devices to the Web — potentially moving in-flight Internet access well beyond mere entertainment options.

Chambers also made other comments at the Gartner event that were widely reported including Cisco having 26 priorities this year, up one or two from previous years; that its IT budget is up 10%; and that Cisco intends to play in consumer virtualization.
