Cisco ups its stake in VMware

Cisco increased its equity stake in VMware to the tune of $13.3 million. The 500 shares of VMware Class A common stock are being purchased from Intel, and will help to increase Cisco's equity share of VMware to 1.7%.  Cisco CEO John Chambers in June said Cisco was not interesting in owning VMware, which is 84% owned by EMC. Chambers said Cisco's ideal acquisition is 100 engineers with a product just about to come to market. Cisco originally acquired a 1.6% equity stake in VMware in July 2007 for $150 million.
