Cisco Unity: Class of Service Configuration

The class of service configuration of Cisco Unity controls the features available to the subscribers associated with the class of service. The class of service configuration in Cisco Unity 5.0 has eight sub configuration options as follows:

• Profile
• Subscribers
• System Access
• Transfer
• Messages
• Greetings
• Features
• Restriction Tables

We will take a look at each menu’s configuration items. Most of the options are self explanatory, but I will cover them if they are not straightforward. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

PROFILE

• Name
• Subscribers can record their own voice name
o Maximum recorded name length, in seconds (30 by default)
• Subscriber Directory Listing
o Subscribers can choose to be listed or not
o Subscribers cannot change this setting for themselves
• Subscribers can view administrator-defined alternate extensions
• Subscribers can add, modify and delete their own alternate extensions

SUBSCIBERS

This configuration menu option is used to View, Reassign, or Assign users to the class of service. There is a Find button that is automatically filled with a * wildcard to find all subscribers. A* could be used to find any subscriber with a first name beginning with the letter a.

SYSTEM ACCESS

This page is used to allocate Unity administration options to Cisco Unity. The Cisco Unity Administrator application access check box is used to set privilege levels of Read, Edit, Add, and/or Delete to the following four configuration items

• Class of Service access
• Directory Handlers access
• Subscribers access
• Public distribution lists

Call management access options:
• Restriction tables access
• Routing tables access
• Call handlers access

Troubleshooting and Administration options:
• Status monitor access
• Reports access
• Network access
• Diagnostics access
• Technician functions access (configuration, licensing, port and switch pages)

CALL TRANSFER OPTIONS

The call transfer options apply to the self configuration options that are available to on the Unity Administrator (UA) pages. These options are used if the call screening or call holding options are provisioned. These options are not turned on by default. We will cover them when covering the subscriber configuration options.

• Subscribers can change call screening options
• Subscribers can change call holding options

The next blog will cover the rest of the configuration options in the class of service. We will then cover the subscriber templates and apply the class of service.
