This blog continues our coverage of the class of service configuration in Cisco Unity 5.0. Cisco Unity has two default classes of service: Default Administrator and Default Subscriber. Any defaults mentioned apply to the Default Subscriber class of service.

MESSAGES

Most of the message configuration options are very self explanatory. The deleted messages option allows a subscriber to undelete deleted voicemail messages.

• Maximum length of message subscribers can record, in seconds (300 by default)
• Subscribers can send messages to public distribution lists (on by default)
• Deleted messages are copied to the deleted items folder (off by default)
• Subscribers can reply to messages from other subscribers by calling them (live reply)

Live reply is off by default. The live reply feature will allow a subscriber checking voicemail to dial back the party that left the voicemail by dialing 4-4 at the end of the voicemail message. The live reply feature is only available after completely listening to the voicemail message. The live reply feature will leave the voicemail marked as unread. The voicemail will be the first unread voicemail message when the subscriber re-connects to the voicemail system.

GREETINGS

The greeting configuration allows the administrator to configure the maximum greeting length that can be configured in the system. The default is 90 seconds. After the greeting is played, the administrator can choose a recording to be played for compliancy with business specific standards or security. No recording are played after the greeting by default, but the administrator has the choice of playing a recording for unidentified callers or all callers.

FEATURES

Unified Messaging and Text-to-Speech are licensed features in Cisco Unity. They may not be available in your system unless they have been specifically licensed. Unified Messaging allows voicemail messages to be attached to E-Mail in Microsoft Outlook or IBM Lotus Notes. FaxMail allows third party fax servers (Cisco Fax Server) to be integrated into a unified Inbox. The text-to-speech engine will allow subscribers to have the Unity system read their E-Mail or faxes over the telephone. Cisco Unity Assistant (UA) allows subscribers to self administer Cisco Unity voicemail settings and the Cisco Unity Inbox (UI) allows subscribers to use a web based interface to check their voicemails. Both the UA and UI are available from the http://

RESTRICTION TABLES

Restriction tables are configured in the Call Management configuration section of Cisco Unity, but are assigned to the Class of Service of the user. Restriction tables restrict the phone patterns that can be dialed for the operations in which they are applied. Cisco Unity has the following restriction tables:

• Outcalling (Default Outdial)
• Transfers (Default Transfer)
• Fax (Default Fax)

Clicking the question mark on this configuration page resulted in a question mark posted next to each configuration option. Clicking one of the question marks results in a popup window which had the following information:

 Outcalling—Select a restriction table to limit phone numbers that subscribers who are assigned to this COS can enter in message delivery settings. The table you select also restricts the subscriber extensions that Cisco Unity dials when the phone is selected as the recording and playback device for the Media Master.
 Transfers—Select a restriction table to limit phone numbers that subscribers who are assigned to this COS can enter in call transfer settings.
 Fax—Select a restriction table to limit phone numbers that subscribers who are assigned to this COS can enter in fax dialing settings.
The next blog will continue the Cisco Unity conversation with subscriber templates.
