Cisco injects cash into rival content security gateway maker

By Jim Duffy on Thu, 11/20/08 - 5:05pm.

Cisco was one of several investors that pumped $22 million into Finjan, a developer of competitive content security products. Cisco provides content security through its ASA 5500 Series appliances using technology from Trend Micro. Recent Infonetics Research figures put Cisco ahead of Symantec to lead the worldwide content security gateway appliance market in the second quarter of 2008. Finjan said its Secure Web Gateway product provides real-time content inspection of in- and outbound communications.

The latest investment injection was led by HarbourVest Partners, and Cisco is listed as an existing investor, alongside Benchmark Capital, Israel Seed Partners, and Benhamou Global Ventures. Finjan said it would use the money to expand its sales and marketing efforts.
