Remember awhile back when I suggested that IT Pros should recertify their certifications (or should be required) to renew their certifications? Seems that one should be careful what one posts in ones blogs......in this case the chickens (or certifications?) have come home to roost! I was recently asked to recertify one of my CompTIA certifications.
In case you are wondering about the CompTIA certifications, once you earn a CompTIA certification, you have earned that certification for life and are not required to recertify to keep that particular CompTIA certification. This is in contrast to many other vendors which do require recertification to maintain ones current status or to certify on a newer product. Since CompTIA does not require you recertify every few years, you could literally have earned you're A+ certification in 1999 and not have to revalidate your skills since. They do encourage you to do so, but there is no requirement in place.
Now how is this relevant to this blog? CompTIA released the new Security+ exam (SY0-201) on October 14th. The exam has been updated and has greater focus in some areas than the previous Security+ Exams. What is applicable here is that a client wants me to take the new Security+ before I start on a project for them - not because they have doubts in y ability - only because they want have passed the latest test.
