Dear Santa, what my home network wants for Christmas

Dear Santa,

Since my network isn’t here to speak for itself (it’s out looking for Sarah Conner), I thought that I would drop you a note and tell you that although there were a few minor indiscretions over the last year (a couple of viruses and a particularly nasty Trojan) my network has been good and would like to have the following things under the tree on Christmas morning:

First off my network would like a wireless print server. Even though the rest of the computers in the house are all on wireless connections; we still have to go down to where the server is every time we print something off. It would be nice to be able to put a printer upstairs without the additional clutter of physically connecting to a desktop or docking station. What my network has in mind is something like the Linksys - 802.11g Wireless USB Print Server in case I also decide to add a scanner or a fax later (maybe on next year’s list). I am sure that my network would also be very happy with the HAWKING HWPS12UG Wireless G Print Server in case it wants to use that printer that only has the parallel port.

While we are on the subject of wireless communication and my network knows that all work and no play makes Chip, I mean Jack a dull boy, so it would also like to have a wireless connector for the Xbox so that we could play online and access the shows that we have on our Media Center computer.

Another item that any home network would love to have is more storage space. With my entire family storing pictures, videos and downloading music, hard drive space is becoming scarce so a nice Terabyte external drive would be helpful. It is amazing how inexpensive these devices have become. A few years ago gigabyte drives were 4 or 5 hundred dollars apiece, now we can get terabyte drives for less than $200…I love progress.

So Santa, if you could please deliver these things for my network I will see that they are installed and I am sure my network will be forever grateful…Merry Christmas.

P.S. – As long as I have your attention, a quad core computer with 8G of Ram, twin PCI Express video cards and 2 500G SATA drives so I could totally own in COD would be a nice gift for the network as well.
