In a not so unpredictable and fairly smart move, many IT management software vendors are designing iPhone interfaces for their applications to track availability and performance of critical network components and business services.
Companies such as Kace, NetScout, PerformanceIT and Service-now.com offer access to their management consoles via an iPhone. In a recent slideshow and Network and Systems Management Alert newsletter, I highlighted a handful of applications IT professionals can use on an iPhone -- and maybe even justify the expense of a fancy new gadget with the powers that be. Yet I didn't include them all. Numara Software also announced in November its Footprints 9 service desk management solution works remotely on an iPhone. (Check out a blog and picture of Numara's iPhone interface here.)
And just to be clear, if the management applications work on iPhones, they most likely also work with a BlackBerry or Windows smart phone. But with the popularity of Apple's iPhone, why not make it a selling point for a product IT pros might find useful?
