In an interesting move, Microsoft has made a president out of Bob Muglia, the head of the company's Server and Tools Business (STB) group, reports Computerworld. The promotion makes Muglia, who joined Microsoft in 1988, only the fourth president at the company. Microsoft is more found of senior vice president titles. The other three presidents are Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division; Jean-Phillipe Courtois, president of Microsoft International; and Stephen Elop, president of the Microsoft Business Division.
Muglia is a developer kind of guy -- an old school Microsoftie -- which is a stark difference from the business/marketing orientation of top executives like chief operating officer Kevin Turner and CEO Steve Ballmer. The division's products include Windows Server 2008 and the SQL Server 2008 database.

Muglia promotion a good thing for Windows Azure
Muglia in part has the successful 2008 introduction of Windows Azure and other elements of Ray Ozzie's cloud strategy to thank for this promtion. (Not to mention great revenues in the servers and tools business).
