Cisco product placements seem to be everywhere in Hollywood these days, catching both TV and movie viewers' attention.
In the recently released hit movie comedy, Yes Man, starring the hilariously funny Jim Carrey, a Cisco IP phone catches everbody's eye as Carrey's character, a bank loan officer named Carl Allen, rubber-stamps YES on all loan applications that cross his desk for approval, regardless of a loan's credit risk. |
Approving those hundreds of loans eventually made Carrey's character the top loan producer for the bank earning him a promotion "upstairs to corporate," along with a fat pay raise.
At the 2 second timemark in the Yes Man Movie video trailer below, you can see a Cisco IP phone prominently featured on the bank desk of Jim Carrey's character, a bank loan officer.
According to Brandchannel.com, Cisco product placements have appeared in 9 movies (not including Yes Man):
| 1. | Book of Secrets - National Treasure |
| 2. | Bourne Supremacy |
| 3. | Bucket List |
| 4. | Iron Man |
| 5. | Miami Vice |
| 6. | Mission: Impossible III |
| 7. | National Treasure |
| 8. | Spider-Man 3 |
| 9. | Transformers |
Of course, Cisco TelePresence has made quite an impact by being featured on the Fox Network TV shows, 24 and Vanished.
On what movies and TV shows have you seen Cisco product placements, and what is your impression of Cisco's effort to gain brand awareness?

Awkward Use - Especially Telepresence
I've noticed Telepresence making an appearance in more and more TV shows, especially CBS shows (The Unit, CSI: NY). The problem is that it's always done in an awkward, obviously shoe-horned manner that comes off as blatant product-whoring. I couldn't stop laughing at 24's "self-defending network" episode. Not to mention, they don't even show-off the product correctly.
When it was shown on "The Unit", TP came off more like a big-screen VTC system, rather than as a near substitute for being across the table from someone. If I was Cisco, I would start providing a couple of employee volunteers to screen it and make sure the "ads" don't suck.

Cisco System is Self-Defending - 24 TV Episode
Mike,
I kinda liked the Cisco System is Self-Defending episode.
Additionally, the Cisco Unified Communications episode was not bad either.
Furthermore, the Russian President - Cisco TelePresence episode was a nail biter!
Finally, the Vanished Cisco TelePresence episode features a "microcope" in the "TelePresence Frame."
Sincerely,
Brad Reese

Cisco phones on TV
Have you ever noticed on reality shows like first 48 etc that there are Cisco phones in the back ground on desks but that the detectives use their Blackberry phones almost exclusively? Makes you wonder why they do not use their desk sets.
