Cisco moves to clear up misunderstanding over third-party VPN support

Recently, some network engineers slammed Cisco for what appeared to be a statement that it would no longer support third-party IPsec VPNs. Cisco has since republished all its documentation to state that it does support non-Cisco VPNs.

A text in the Cisco Security Appliance Command Line Configuration Guide originally read: "Because we adhere to VPN industry standards, ASAs may work with other vendors' peers in LAN-to-LAN VPNs; however, we do not support them."

Network engineers were puzzled and customers complained. Now Cisco has republished all its documents to reflect that it does support third-party VPNs, writes Cisco Subnet blogger and Cisco Security Consultant Engineer Jamey Heary.
