Microsoft-Verizon mobile search deal to be announced at CES

Microsoft won a nice coup over rival Google by scoring a mobile search deal with Verizon. Microsoft will become the default provider of Internet search for Verizon Wireless customers, reports the Wall Street Journal. A Verizon executive spilled the beans on the agreement Wednesday at the annual Citigroup entertainment, media and telecommunications conference, the WSJ said.

The deal will be officially announced by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at the Consumer Electronics Show, Verizon executives said. The news doesn't come as a giant surprise. The WSJ in November reported that Microsoft was close to signing Verizon Wireless in an agreement that offered Verizon up to twice the cash over a five year period as it would reportedly have squeezed out of Google.
