The New York Times reports on Palm's attempt to take on the iPhone:
Seeking to revive its sharply fallen fortunes and produce a successor to its aging Treo device, Palm on Thursday unveiled a new smartphone, the Pre, and an exclusive partnership with Sprint to distribute it.
Palm says the device and the new operating system inside of it, Palm webOS, break new ground in the fiercely competitive smartphone market. The phone’s selling points include an emphasis on Web browsing and the ability to handle more than one online function at a time.
The sleek black phone comes with 8 gigabytes of storage, G.P.S. navigational capabilities and Wi-Fi. It has a 3.1-inch touch-screen display as well as a slide-out keyboard.
Interesting that Palm has made Sprint its carrier of choice. This marks the second big smartphone that Sprint has snagged over the past year (the first one was the Samsung Instinct).
