Cisco has joined with Microsoft and Intel to create new ways to develop students who are ready for a workforce that requires collaborative and creative thinking. They argue that traditional instructional and assessment practices in which school work is judged by only the teacher is outdated. The three vendors unveiled plans to sponsor a multisector research project to develop appropriate assessment approaches, methods and technologies, according to their joint press release.

Individuals from both the private and public sectors will collaborate on the research and will work to "[influence] the development of future international and national assessments."

This project sounds like it is worthwhile effort. Kids today learn far more about collaborative and creative working when they're at home and using their online gadgets. Perhaps it's time the school cirriculum  catches up.
