Missouri university researcher plots for pervasive computing lab

By Alpha Doggs on Tue, 01/20/09 - 1:50pm.

A Missouri University of Science and Technology researcher wants to create a pervasive computing lab at the school to further develop ideas involving the connectivity of mobile gadgets.

Ali Hurson, a professor and chair of computer science at the school, is conducting research funded by the National Science Foundation into airport security. Such a security system would unite wired and wireless sensors and gadgets and cameras to keep passengers and airlines safe. Key would be middleware software (still at the theoretical stage) providing the glue to connect the various parts and data.

Existing sensor networks have largely been created separately from one another, Hurson says ina statement: "Now we want to establish interoperability to serve future applications."

Rutgers University is among other schools with a focus on pervasive computing research.
