Did Borat Sagdiyev - the fictitious Kazakh journalist made famous by the hit movie, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," help Cisco bring its Mobile WiMAX technology to make benefit for the Karaganda region of the glorious nation of Kazakhstan?
If in fact Borat did, Cisco appears to be keeping a tight lip.
However, Cisco did acknowledge that its Mobile WiMAX technology (based on IEEE 802.16e-2005) will be rolling out under AsiaBell's brand name AERO, serving a population of 1 million people. Or as Borat might say, "make benefit for business and residential customers in central Karaganda region of glorious nation of Kazakhstan."

The Kazakhstan AsiaBell AERO rollout is deploying the Cisco BWX 8300 with Cisco 7604 routers, Cisco ME 6500 Ethernet switches and Cisco ME 3750 switches, Cisco AS5350XM gateways, and Cisco ASA 5500 security appliances. Furthermore, AERO will also be offering its subscribers Cisco modems for use with subscriber desktop and portable computers.

According to Massimo Migliuolo - Cisco vice president for emerging markets:
"Cisco is seeing enormous demand for broadband availability across emerging markets. This is driving significant interest in WiMAX, as it can be deployed rapidly and is IP compatible. Countries and service providers want to leapfrog and install networks which are fast and are able to support rich media applications and services. A transformation to next generation networks using WiMAX technology can achieve this."
Additionally, Cisco noted that its beamforming technologies are enabling AsiaBell AERO to deliver coverage and capacity with fewer cell sites.

Is WiMAX dead?
Yours truly received the following email message regarding the story above:

"The bigger question really is … is WiMAX dead and why would developing Eastern European countries choose this technology for national broadband networks when it has been losing the support of other competitive network gear makers?"

Borat
Let's acknoledge that the Kazakh part of the movie was actually shot in.... Romania. :)
Borat not real Kazakh?
Are you suggesting Borat not real Kazakh and instead make benefit for Romania?
How dare insult glorious nation of Kazakhstan!
Sincerely,
Brad Reese

Yeap, the Kazaks are
Yeap, the Kazaks are actually gipsies from a Romanian village. Anyway, the glorious nation of Kazakhstan seems to be ahead of Romania in the WiMax field. In Romania, the bid for the WiMax licenses was postponed because none of the 6 candidates agreed to pay the cost of the license.
Why Kazakhs are so successful as Used Cisco Dealers
Perhaps that explains why Kazakhs are so successful as Used Cisco Dealers:
Used Cisco equals gypsies at a flea market
