And the Oscar goes to ... Google?

This Sunday, some Google.org execs may be joining the likes of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt as they strut across the stage to accept an Oscar statuette. Google.org conceived and bankrolled a film detailing the effort to eradicate polio, called "The Final Inch," and the movie has been nominated for an Academy Award in the best short documentary category.

According to this write-up in the San Francisco Chronicle, Google's philanthropic arm, Google.org, hired Vermillion Films and director Irene Taylor Brodsky to track the efforts to vaccinate children in India and Afghanistan, two areas where polio is still a danger. The film was well-received and won an Oscar nomination in January. And that means that if it wins its cateory, Google could actually win an award during the main televised ceremony on Sunday, along with those for best picture, actor and director.

Which begs the question: What will Sergey and Larry wear on the red carpet? The Chronicle isn't sure exactly which Googlers will represent the company at the ceremony, although Google.org executive director, Larry Brilliant, and Greg Miller, senior advisor and chief of investments say they plan to attend. The Chronicle reports:

[Brilliant and Miller] plan to wear tuxedos rather than going Silicon Valley casual, no doubt to avoid the stinging fashion critics on Inside Edition the next day.

No doubt, but here's betting they wear sneakers too. The film is scheduled to air nationally on HBO sometime this year.
